C Smith scratched before White Sox debut, placed on DL (Yahoo Sports)

Chicago White Sox catcher Kevan Smith thought he'd be making his major league debut in Toronto. Called up Sunday after Alex Avila landed on the 15-day DL with a sore right hamstring, Smith was in the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays but was scratched after injuring his back while stretching before batting practice. Unwilling to play with just one healthy catcher, Dioner Navarro, the White Sox put Smith on the 15-day DL Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday, and selected Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Charlotte.
