Ingram is a pass-rushing dynamo with 18+ sacks over the past two seasons, and he also excels as an edge rusher for the Chargers. The South Carolina product has spent his entire career with the Chargers, who drafted him in the first round in 2012.

Anthony DeSclafani was scratched from his first scheduled start of spring training because of a tender elbow, another setback for the Cincinnati Reds' top starter. Manager Bryan Price said skipping the start, scheduled for Tuesday, was more of a precaution. DeSclafani was on target to start the Reds' season opener last year before straining an oblique during his final spring training appearance.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed an exclusive rights franchise tag on Pro Bowl running back Le'Veon Bell, ensuring he'll remain with the team in 2017. Josh Hamilton has had another surgery on his balky left knee, ending any chance of the 2010 AL MVP making the Texas Rangers' opening day roster. The arthroscopic procedure Monday was to repair some damaged meniscus cartilage in his left knee. Hamilton had left spring training in Arizona and returned to Houston for the second time in less than a week to be examined by Dr. Walt Lowe, who also performed Hamilton's season-ending surgery last June.

Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton went to Houston on Sunday, facing the possibility of another knee surgery in his bid to return to the majors. Hamilton will be examined Monday by Dr. Walt Lowe, who performed reconstructive surgery on the former AL MVP's left knee last June. The Rangers acknowledge Hamilton might require arthroscopic knee surgery.

No one in Chicago White Sox camp is happier for a new season than James Shields. ''You're always learning, no matter how many years you've been in the game,'' Shields said Wednesday. Shields was 6-19 with a 5.85 ERA last year with San Diego and Chicago, including 4-12 with a 6.77 ERA in 22 starts for the White Sox.

Tight end Julius Thomas has passed his physical with the Miami Dolphins in a precursor to a trade that will be completed next month, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Thomas took the physical as part of a two-day visit to the team's headquarters, said the person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because no trade can be completed before the new league year begins on March 9. Thomas is part of two trades that the Dolphins will make with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the person said.

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang appeared in a South Korean court on Wednesday as judges began hearing arguments in a trial over charges that the baseball star fled the scene after slamming a car into a guardrail while driving under the influence of alcohol. A friend of Kang also attended the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday after being charged for falsely telling police that he, not Kang, was driving the vehicle. It wasn't immediately clear how long the trial will take or when Kang will be able to join the Pirates for the new season.

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred came down solidly on the side of the Arizona Diamondbacks' ownership in the team's court battle with Maricopa County. Major League Baseball intends give the players' association the required one-year advance notice that would allow management to unilaterally change the strike zone, install pitch clocks and limit trips to the pitcher's mound starting in 2018. Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred made the announcement Tuesday after union head Tony Clark said he did not foresee players agreeing to the changes for 2017. Under baseball's labor contract, management can make changes to playing rules only with agreement from the union - unless it gives one year notice.

The Panthers began restructuring their roster on Tuesday, releasing three-time Pro Bowl fullback Mike Tolbert and backup defensive tackle Paul Soliai. The versatile Tolbert was utilized as a blocker, runner and receiver during his five seasons with the Panthers, but the 31-year-old's production tailed off last season. Tolbert carried 35 times for 114 yards with no touchdowns with 10 receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown in 2016.
