Sharper's Hall of Fame nomination causes national outcry (Yahoo Sports)

FILE - In this March 23, 2015, file photo, former NFL football player Darren Sharper appears in Los Angeles Superior Court. A Nevada judge refused to dismiss a civil lawsuit by a woman seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars from Sharper for allegedly drugging and raping her in Las Vegas in January 2014. Sharper pleaded guilty to reduced criminal charges in the woman's case a year ago, and is in custody in Louisiana in a similar case. (AP Photo/Nick Ut, Pool, File)

The inclusion of former NFL safety and convicted rapist Darren Sharper on this year's list of Pro Football Hall of Fame nominees has created a national outcry. U.S. District Court Judge Jane Triche Milazzo sentenced him to 18 years in prison last month. There is no character clause to be eligible for the Hall of Fame, but that has not tempered a debate that has some Twitter members calling for an NFL boycott in the unlikely event Sharper is elected.
