The Cleveland Indians could be nearing a trade for Milwaukee All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy. According to several reports late Saturday night, the teams have an agreement in place for a deal that would send Lucroy to the Indians in exchange for four minor league prospects. The Indians lead the AL Central by 4 1/2 games over Detroit.

The Minnesota Vikings have taken a cautious start to the season with running back Adrian Peterson, because of a hamstring pull he suffered prior to training camp while working out. The Vikings kept kickoff returner/wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson out of practice Saturday, following an injury around his left shoulder Friday that occurred while he fell trying to make a catch. Offensive lineman Mike Harris is dealing with an undisclosed illness that's keeping him out of practice.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he doesn't like going up against NFL games when he debates Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton this fall and that the football league complained to him about the debate schedule in a letter. A spokesman for the NFL says the football league didn't send a letter to Trump as the billionaire businessman claims. In an interview with ABC's Sunday show ''This Week,'' Trump was asked if he would accept the commission's schedule.

Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza has gotten his No. 31 retired by the New York Mets in a pregame ceremony at Citi Field. The half-hour tribute Saturday night included his parents, family members, former teammates, friends and a lot of chants and cheers. The 47-year-old Piazza was inducted into the baseball Hall last Sunday in Cooperstown.

Saints coach Sean Payton is ending evening meetings with players an hour earlier at training camp this summer and starting practice an hour later in the mornings. Doing so gives players more time to enjoy the amenities at the luxury Greenbrier Resort in the mountains of West Virginia, should they choose - but that was hardly the point. The Kansas City Chiefs signed left tackle Eric Fisher to a contract extension Saturday, the first day that veterans joined rookies on the practice field at Missouri Western for training camp. Fisher was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 draft out of Central Michigan, but he struggled to adjust to the NFL his first couple of years. The Chiefs exercised their fifth-year option on him in May, which would have meant Fisher would make $11.9 million next season.

The Oakland Raiders signed general manager Reggie McKenzie to a four-year contract extension. Owner Mark Davis announced the move Friday night in front of about 100 former Raiders players. Davis said it was time to ''reward'' McKenzie for the job he had done in his first three years with the team.

The Miami Marlins acquired the pitching reinforcements they sought in a trade that cost them four players, including two minor leaguers. Right-handers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea were sent to Miami by the San Diego Padres in a seven-player deal, two people familiar with the deal said. The Marlins, eager to shore up their rotation for a playoff push, will also receive pitching prospect Tayron Guerrero for right-handers Jarred Cosart and Carter Capps and two minor leaguers, pitching prospect Luis Castillo and first baseman Josh Naylor.
