ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Jhoulys Chacin threw a four-hitter to win a scintillating duel with Justin Verlander, and Cliff Pennington's tiebreaking RBI single in the Angels' five-run eighth inning propelled Los Angeles to a 5-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.

Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer after Lorenzo Cain drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run eighth inning and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 on Monday night. The Royals have won four straight, matching their season best streak, and have scored 19 runs after the sixth innings in those victories. Cain's single scored Alcides Escobar with the first run of the inning before Hosmer took a pitch from Erasmo Ramirez (6-3) deep to right-center for his 10th home run.

Gregory Polanco's grand slam, Sean Rodriguez's two-run homer, and David Freese's four hits helped power the offense for the Pirates, who won the first of a four-game series in Miami. Locke retired 19 straight at one point and needed just six pitches to get through the seventh inning.

Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan plans to apply Wednesday to the NFL for reinstatement after sitting out last season for his latest violation of the league's substance abuse policy. Jordan's plans were confirmed Monday by his agent, Doug Hendrickson. The overall No. 3 selection in the 2013 draft, Jordan has contributed little so far in his career, and is serving his second suspension under the NFL substance abuse policy.

New York's captain and third baseman was out of the starting lineup for the third straight day Monday because of his neck. Now 33, Wright was on the disabled list from April 15 to Aug. 24 last year when he strained his right hamstring and then developed spinal stenosis.

While the contract stalemate continues, the numbers of the offer made to Ryan Fitzpatrick by the New York Jets are just beginning to emerge. A source familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday that the Jets made a three-year offer to Fitzpatrick in March that included $12 million in the first year. Yahoo! Sports reported Sunday that the Jets' full offer is worth a total of $24 million - with $6 million in each of the final two years.

Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez is expected to be out 7 to 10 days with a bruised left thigh after colliding with rookie third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert while catching a foul pop up in the ninth inning Saturday. ''Hopefully it's not going to require a trip to the DL,'' Royals manager Ned Yost said Sunday. Playing with a back condition called spinal stenosis since he returned from a long layoff in late August last season, Wright has homered in his last three games. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Brett Eibner's single capped the biggest ninth-inning comeback in Kansas City Royals history, a seven-run rally off David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle that lifted the World Series champions over the Chicago White Sox 8-7 Saturday.

Devon Travis drove home Russell Martin with two out in the bottom of the ninth as the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 10-9 on Saturday. With the Blue Jays trailing 9-8 on a David Ortiz home run in the top of the inning, Boston closer Craig Kimbrel retired Edwin Encarnacion and Michael Saunders.

Kyle Hendricks pitched a five-hitter for his second career complete game, Dexter Fowler hit a leadoff homer and the Chicago Cubs beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Saturday. Hendricks (3-4) struck out seven and walked none. Fowler sparked a two-run first against Jerad Eickhoff (2-7) with his sixth home run.

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad injury. An MRI before Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox revealed a low-grade strain, and Tulowitzki will receive treatment on the leg before resuming baseball activities. ''It's tough,'' Tulowitzki said.
